Differentiate between the three types of Validity (Internal, External and Construct)
Validity is a critical concept in research and assessment, ensuring that the results and
conclusions drawn from a study or measurement are accurate and meaningful. There are three
main types of validity: internal validity, external validity, and construct validity. Each type
serves a distinct purpose in evaluating the quality and relevance of research findings.
Internal Validity: The extent to which a research correctly assesses or evaluates the
precise concepts or connections it aims to explore is referred to as internal validity. It determines
how much of the observed effects can be attributed to the modified independent variable(s) and
how much is impacted by extraneous factors. Internal validity is jeopardized by factors such as
selection bias, history, maturation, testing effects, and instrumentation. To improve internal
validity, researchers employ numerous control procedures such as randomization, control groups,
and counterbalancing. When generating causal inferences, strong internal validity is vital
because it assures that changes in the dependent variable are truly caused by the independent
variable under examination.
External Validity: External validity refers to the generalizabi …
