While I was working at an aircraft parts manufacturing company, the management decided that they needed changes in many of the processes and culture that made the company run. These changes involved improved jobs that some workers have been doing for years. The company went about this entirely the wrong way. They tried to force change and did not take any opinions from the guys who performed these jobs every day or just dismissed the ideas that performed these jobs every day or just dismissed ideas that they presented to leaders. So when these changes were implemented, they failed, and the workers were blamed for being difficult and unaccepting of change. During this time, the company wanted to force culture change that they believed was needed, so when the workers were told to change how certain day-to-day activities were accomplished, they fought back with disapproval and malcontent. When these initiatives failed, corporate leaders came from England and attempted to learn about the problems, but the damage was done, and people were untrusting these leaders. Fast forward a few years, that company division was dissolved, and all the people were and that company division was dissolved, and all the people laid off.
This issue could have been resolved easily if the managers took the time to listen to the employees and learn where they needed help or process change.

Best Buy entered the UK market in 2010,buying up a 50 per cent stake in UK mobile phone company Carphone Warehouse for $1.3 billion. The goal, which was initially to launch 200 stores, was revised to 100 stores but didnt even get that far. By late 2011, the big box electronic retailer announced it was closing the lackluster 11 stores it had managed to open during the run. The reason? Despite keeping an eye on strategic acquisitions for years before making the Carphone Warehouse play, Best Buy chose the apex of the worst economic decline in recent history to open shop. The whole bungled affair was estimated to have cost the company around US $318 million.
Some models just dont work. The truth is, when building out international operations its a delicate balance of timing and understanding the cultural nuances. Get it wrong, and it may cost you more than a little humiliation and a pile of cash.
